If so, what does that mean to you?  Sufficient quality housing should be available to all in our state.

What actions have you taken in the past to fight for housing justice?  As a legislator, I have Co-Sponsored Good Cause, TOPA, HVAP. Previously, as a non-profit Executive Director, I have worked with legal partners to provide legal clinics for tenants in distress around queens. I was also on the Board of the Western Queens Community Land Trust. My district also have a large Mitchell Lama complex that is on the verge of privatization, so I advocated for a Michell Lama allocation within this year’s budget negotiations; otherwise, many working class families and seniors will be forced out of the neighborhood, possibly the state.

What are the most pressing housing issues, and what would you do as an elected official to address them?   Tenant Protection is a priority for my office, so I (1) Co-Sponsor legislation to help tenants, (2) conduct month legal clinics for tenants, and (3) keep an open line of communication with advocacy groups.

Have you or anyone close to you (family, friend, etc) been evicted or been threatened with eviction?  Yes

Have you ever had to fight a landlord for repairs or faced harassment?  Yes

Do you believe that housing should be decommodified? Yes

What is one rent and/or eviction protection you would enact if you had the opportunity?  Good Cause Eviction!

Why or why not?  I’m alright with evicting a millionaire or billionaire.

Do you support the concept of universal rent control?  Yes

Do you support the NYCHA 2.0 Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) and other privatization schemes?  No

Please explain why or why not There are loopholes for the city to continue gentrifying low income neighborhoods and displace low-income families.

What do you see as the best strategies to rectify these problems?  I do not have a NYCHA complex within my district, but I support advocating for any and all government funding to address the needs of NYCHA tenants.

How would you use your office to put pressure on landlords to make repairs and stop harassing tenants?  Currently, I host monthly legal clinics with non-profit partners and proactively outreach to tenants in our community to join the clinic.

Will you support increased funding and oversight hearings of DHCR’s Office of Rent Administration to ensure timely responses on overcharge complaints and rent reduction orders for hazardous conditions?  Yes
