ncrease access to affordable housing and  homelessness. I will use evidence-based and equity-based approaches to ending homelessness, such as  Housing First.  This approach is guided by the belief that people need basic necessities like food and a place to live before attending to anything less critical, such as getting a job, budgeting properly, or attending to substance use issues.

I will advocate  relentlessly for the advancing  of a FY 2021 Federal budget that dramatically scales up investments in the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program.  This would include the Housing Choice Voucher program (Section 8) so that more people can afford housing. will advocate for the redefining of how affordability is calculated and introduce legislation requiring the use of census tract data which is more useful than the one-size-fits-all AMI which is still too high for low-income communities.

13. NYCHA has suffered from chronic underfunding, neglect and disrepair. What do you see as the best strategies to rectify these problems?

I would  commit to working with NYCHA residents and community stakeholders to create and implement a resident-led oversight council to help guide NYCHA activities and execution of repairs, capital improvements and structures.

14. Do you support the NYCHA 2.0 Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD)/ PACT program and other privatization schemes? No

The building of a men’s shelter.  We need permanent  supportive housing as a solution to homelessness.

I will introduce and support legislation that protect rent regulated housing and tenants from harassment from landlords.I will advocate for funding for the repair of aging and inhumane living conditions for our residents.  I will support a green new deal for public housing.

Now is the time for permanent supportive housing as a remedy for homelessness for our most vulnerable homeless people.  This method will pair housing with case management and supportive services.

I would argue while its difficult to address wage stagnation in the affordable housing sector; confronting tenants hardships in rent -stabilized apartments is a move towards social justice and is within their reach.  Furthermore, COVID-19 has escalated tenants inability to survive.
